Welcome to the Tiltrock Loop - Pennsylvania’s longest loop trail, connecting five historic trail networks into one epic circuit.
Formed by a strategic split along the Great Eastern Trail, the Tiltrock Loop offers an unprecedented 300-mile backpacking circuit across south-central Pennsylvania and Maryland. Unlike traditional point-to-point routes that require complex vehicle shuttles and lots of logistics, this continuous loop lets you start and finish at any point along the route with the town of Everett, PA, as its anchor.
Collaboratively developed by the Bedford County Outdoor Recreation Alliance, Discover Bedford County, and regional trail authorities, the Tiltrock Loop seamlessly unifies five iconic paths into a single world-class journey:
From the rugged, ridge-line panoramas near State College to the historic canal paths at Hancock, MD, the trail weaves through deep forests, rich regional lore, and living Appalachian history.
A hike on the Tiltrock Loop is incredibly rewarding any time of year. Because the 300-mile circuit spans distinct ridge-and-valley topographies, the changing seasons completely transform the landscape and the wildlife you’ll encounter.
The deep woods of south-central Pennsylvania are steeped in living history and regional lore. As you scan the tree line for native wildlife, keep an eye out for tracks and signs belonging to the elusive cryptids woven into the state’s storytelling for generations.
