Behind every mural is a story, and this one belongs to the community 🌳
Created by artist Mari-Pat Beene, Bedford’s “CommUnity Tree” grew from a simple idea: making sure everyone had a chance to leave their mark on a public art project. Community members traced their hands and added positive messages, creating a piece rooted in connection, creativity, and shared experience.
Look closely and you’ll find hidden symbols woven throughout the mural, from local churches and Bedford County landscapes to personal tributes to family, friends, and community. Even the sky was created with help from a Bedford County Leadership class.
More than a mural, it’s a living piece of Bedford. Interactive, meaningful, and made for others to enjoy together.
