For 45 years, paddlers have descended upon the Juniata River to test their mettle against the “Bloody Run.” Whether you’re a professional racer chasing a personal best or a recreational paddler looking for a scenic Saturday, this 11-mile tradition through the heart of Everett is the ultimate kickoff to the Pennsylvania summer.

The Legend of the "Bloody Run"

The name “Bloody Run” isn’t just a catchy title—it’s a nod to the 18th-century frontier history of Everett. Long before the first canoe race in 1981, this area was a vital corridor for traders, pioneers, and soldiers.

The Race Tradition: Originally started by a group of friends in 1981, the Classic has survived floods, droughts, and decades to become a nonprofit tourist attraction.
Everett’s Roots: Explore the town’s industrial and railroad history at the Everett Train Station Museum after the race.
